Tootsie Roll Banana Minis: My Favorite Find in a Year Gone Bananas

Tootsie Roll Banana Minis: My Favorite Find in a Year Gone Bananas

I don't know what's going on with candy companies and bananas this year, but apparently 2026 is the year everybody decided banana deserves another chance.

Snickers Banana Nut Bread introduced banana-flavored nougat inside the familiar chocolate, caramel and peanut combination. OREO joined the party with OREO Banana Pudding cookies, complete with layers of banana and vanilla pudding creme.

And Laffy Taffy? Well, Laffy Taffy has been proudly representing artificial banana flavor since long before any of this became fashionable.

But with all these new banana-inspired treats getting attention, there's one little yellow bag I keep coming back to.

Tootsie Roll Minis Banana.

No elaborate dessert collaboration. No fancy filling. Just individually wrapped, bite-sized banana candy from a company that's been making chewy treats for generations.

And sometimes that's exactly what I want.

Banana Candy Has Always Been a Little Controversial

Here's the thing about banana-flavored candy. People seem to have very strong opinions about it.

There's the crowd that absolutely loves that unmistakable sweet, candy-banana flavor. Give them banana taffy, banana marshmallows or anything remotely resembling a banana, and they're happy.

Then there's the other crowd.

The people who insist artificial banana tastes nothing like an actual banana and can't understand why anybody would voluntarily eat it.

And technically, they're right. Most banana candy doesn't taste particularly close to the fruit sitting on your kitchen counter.

But that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Nobody opens a package of banana candy expecting a potassium-rich breakfast.

Sometimes you want that familiar, slightly nostalgic candy flavor that reminds you of being a kid and picking your favorite pieces out of a mixed candy assortment.

And that's where these little Tootsie Roll Minis come in.

The Little Yellow Bag That's Getting People Talking

Tootsie Roll Minis Banana comes in a bright yellow 3.49-ounce bag, complete with individually wrapped banana-flavored chews and that familiar Tootsie owl looking unusually pleased with himself.

The candies are small, soft and chewy, with a sweet banana flavor.

They're also attracting a surprisingly enthusiastic following.

Candy fans have been sharing their discoveries, comparing the flavor with Banana Laffy Taffy and debating whether these deserve a place alongside their longtime favorites.

Some people are buying multiple bags when they find them. Others are less convinced, particularly those who prefer the flavor or texture of traditional Tootsie candy.

And that's what makes banana candy so interesting. The exact flavor that makes one person reach for another piece is the reason somebody else puts the bag down.

Personally, I think there's something appealing about a candy that doesn't need to pretend it's an elaborate dessert.

Banana is the entire point.

Sometimes the Simplest Candy Wins

Don't get me wrong. I love seeing familiar brands experiment with new flavors.

Snickers Banana Nut Bread is a clever idea. OREO Banana Pudding makes perfect sense for a cookie that already knows its way around dessert flavors.

And I'll probably never understand why Banana Laffy Taffy inspires such passionate arguments, but that's practically part of its charm.

Still, not every banana treat needs chocolate, pudding, caramel or a complicated backstory.

Sometimes all it takes is a small, chewy candy that brings back the fun of those old-fashioned fruit flavors.

That's why these Banana Tootsie Roll Minis have my attention.

They're simple, they're different, and they're arriving at exactly the right time for anyone who's been enjoying this year's banana candy obsession.

And while the bigger brands compete to see who can invent the next banana-inspired dessert, I'm perfectly happy giving this little yellow bag some attention.

Because in a year when everybody seems to be going bananas, sometimes the smallest candy makes the biggest impression.
